Tests on spinal implants

Spinal implants are used to replace defective intervertebral discs in the spinal column. Once implanted in the human body they are subjected to high static and cyclic loading. These loads are therefore simulated in advance in a simplified form.

The test device for spinal implants can be used for tests of this type to ASTM F 2077. The test program contains shear, compression and torsion tests. The spinal implant is loaded between two plastic (oscillating test) or metal (quasi-static test) blocks.

Tests can be performed under physiological (in-vivo) conditions (37°C ± 2°C) using a temperature-controlled bath.
